Description Stellenbosch, the historic, bustling student capital of the winelands, boasts a beautiful home championship course, the Stellenbosch Golf Club. This course is surrounded by vineyards and overlooks the Simonsberg and Helderberg Mountains creating an environment for an even better round of golf.
Playing the Course
The course is characterised by narrow kikuyu grass fairways closely guarded by large trees and thick rough. At times playing around vineyards, which border the fairways, may be necessary. The par-four 6th is one such case.
The signature hole, the par-five 14th, is played up a tight steep fairway that is well guarded by trees on both sides and the green is hidden around the corner of a dogleg.
We rate this course as a challenging holiday course. Well protected from the southeastern wind that plays havoc with other courses in the Cape, the course is scenic and in excellent condition. The elevated clubhouse overlooks the 18th and has a good restaurant and well-stocked pro shop.
