Description With so many golf courses along the Garden Route to choose from you could be forgiven for thinking that the George Golf club is just another course. Consistently rated in the top ten courses in the country the locals swear that it offers better value than most of the courses in the area.
George is a combination of parklands and woodlands layout with the age of the course being reflected in the well-established trees. The course which has almost been hacked out of a forest and the surrounding natural vegetation together with backdrop of the Outeniqua mountain range makes a beautiful setting.
Playing the Course
The course receives enough water throughout the year and is always in great condition. The rolling kikuyu fairways are wide and generous. The rough, however, is not so forgiving with thick shrubbery and all kinds of trees. Well placed bunkers on the fairways and around the greens make club selection and accuracy all the more important on this course! The dam provides for a great focal point around the course, especially off the first tee where you must negotiate the dam on the left and trees on the right.
The signature par-three 17th is rated as one of the best par threes in the world and features in the top 500 in the world. A truly spectacular hole that plays downhill from an elevated tee requires a long iron at 181m. The green is tight and well guarded by five bunkers in front, left and behind. The surrounding contours and flowers make this a very special hole.
