Possibly the most difficult course in South Africa |
Description Since opening in 1991, Fancourt Hotel & Country Club Estate has established itself as one of South Africa’s premier golfing spots, the product of its leisure resorts of championship proportions and immaculately maintained greens. Fancourt Hotel and Country Club Estate offers the golfing visitor three world class golf courses, the
Outeniqua, the
Montagu and the Links. These Gary Player designed courses are demanding but offer a fair test set in beautiful surroundings.
The Fancourt Links Golf Course offers excellent facilities, generous kikuyu fairways and fast bent grass greens. This golf course has some of the best caddies in the country and the course has been said to be in the same league as the famous Links courses in Scotland (Carnoustie, Muirfield and Troon).
Playing the Course
The Links at Fancourt, host to the President’s Cup in November 2003, presents a unique golfing experience in South Africa. This man-made links course has achieved balance and harmony in terms of length, hazards and shot value. While being a beautiful walking experience the Links is quite possibly the most difficult course in South Africa. Carry more balls than usual and be patient! The Links was never meant to be a low scoring, target golf course.
The signature hole of the Fancourt Links course is the par-four 15th! The hole doglegs left around a dam and your length off the tee will determine how much of the water you want to take on. A good tee shot will leave you about 150m to a green surrounded by water back, left and particularly close to the green on the right.
The short par-four 14th (309 meters) also stands out as a classic links course. Negotiate the fairway bunkers and hit a pitch shot to the smallest green on the course framed by towering dunes and thick rough.
