Description
Humewood Golf course is an old-fashioned links course consistently rated in the top ten golf courses in South Africa. It has been described by legend Bobby Locke as good enough to host the Open Championship, should it ever be held outside the British Isles!
The golf course is situated on the sand dunes of the seafront close to the centre of the friendly city of Port Elizabeth and is exposed to onshore gales that blow from the Indian Ocean. These winds will challenge even the best of golfers.
Playing the Course
Although the fairways are wide and undulating in order to compensate for the strong winds, the rough that borders them is unforgiving. This is how golf should be played the old fashioned way with harsh penalties for missing fairways. Golf is a game of skill and this beautifully manicured course makes no apologies to the average hacker.
The holes are simple yet neat. The gulf greens are fast and firm and the few bunkers are well positioned with tough steep faces.
Some golfers consider the par-four 13th the greatest par four in the world. The hole measures 408m of narrow rolling fairway to an elevated green hidden from sight by a sandy hill and hazards all around it. It has a sand and rough waste area to the right, steep bunker to the left and thick bush behind it.

Take the N2 to the city centre. From there take the Summerstrand exit and continue onto Marine Drive and along the coastline. The golf club is situated immediately after the Holiday Inn Garden Court. |
